Would you love to experience magical results in 2025? I know I would. Compounding is another kind of magic. When in your favour it can transform a modest investment over time into a nice nest egg. When working against you (e.g., APR on Credit Cards if you don’t clear them each month) it can lead to extreme discomfort and even shock!
Let’s stay positive. Compounding is a glorious way for building on what you’ve already achieved. Let’s say you’ve learned to do something well. Everything you learn from this point on will compound upon the new standard you have achieved.
I’d like to emphasise the power of little and often when it comes to compounding. Small actions each and every day can lead to long-term benefits out of all proportion to the efforts made. Making the effort small can also make it easier to sustain. Yes, you guessed it – I’ve got my aim on ridiculous New Year’s resolutions! This is because making bold, audacious goals may impress some management gurus, but in practice they are harder to maintain than modest long-term strategies.
If you wanted to exercise more, it would be easier to commit to one minute more each day, than to go crazy on a new gym membership. If you wanted to learn more, consistently, it would be way better to commit to a chapter more each week rather than an additional book each week. Tiny gains add up. Tiny steps, regularly taken, add momentum. Tiny changes build big new habits… over time.
Thus today’s blog – my final one of 2024 – is to invite you to share what tiny, tiny, tiny change you might like to make on a daily or weekly basis throughout 2025. This is ‘blink and you miss it’ level of tiny – but over the long-term it will move mountains.
