Well," said Pooh, “What I like best," and then he had to stop and think. Because although eating honey was a very good thing to do, there was a moment just before you began to eat it which was better than when you were, but he didn't know what it was called.
Many kind folk responded to my question at the end of my first blog, “What would you put in the box under the bed, to help you to cope with next winter?" I read every single response and made a list of the fabulous suggestions. This list will be going into the box under my bed.
One of the responses (from CMM) gave me much pause for thought and has even made me reflect on my relationship with 'the future'. CMM says they use Christopher Robin's philosophy that ‘Every month I am in is my favourite month'. Therein lies the challenge for me.
Now, I like to be prepared, but sometimes I can over-anticipate at the expense of enjoying the present moment. This need to prepare possibly stems from a deep, shared ancestral habit that has helped humanity to survive all sorts of hardships. Nevertheless, finding pleasure in the present is also a learned and important skill. After all, it is how I remember the years before anxiety, as a carefree child.
Pooh's favourite moment is the one just before he begins to eat honey. It is a mixture of anticipation and pleasure rolled into one delicious sensation.
My favourite moment today was the one just before I sipped my morning cup of tea. What about you? Do you have a favourite moment from the past few days?
