Are you always the person who makes you happy?

In a community garden there is a sign that says ‘Be with the one who makes you happy’ and the word ‘with’ is crossed out.

I found the quote from C.G. Jung which went, “The soul will never know peace until it finds its other and this is always you.”

One interpretation is that your lifelong mate, with whom you may find happiness and is a person as close to yourself as possible.

This is true for some people and I know others who have had a partner that is their opposite and they have been happy for over 50 years.

Do you think in order to be happy with another, one must first be comfortable with and like themselves? If you are not happy with yourself, how can you be happy with another? Do you think if you can’t be content or happy with yourself, is it hard to like yourself? Do you need to be happy with yourself before you can be happy with another?

For me I feel I think way too much and worry to be happy with myself, but I embrace my differences. Then again, I have had  not much success with long term relationships so may there be some truth in the saying.

Are you the one that makes you happy?
