Biscuits with the Boss

Spoiler alert if you haven’t seen Ted Lasso. The series is the most heartwarming I’ve ever had the joy to watch (and I like “Anne of Green Gables”!!!)  One of the favourite examples of Ted’s relentless kindness is “Biscuits with the Boss.” Unbeknown to Rebecca (the Boss of AFC Richmond), Ted makes the biscuits he brings her each day. I won’t give any more of the story away – it’s simply important for you to know he is constant in this intentional daily act of kindness.

Some of you have said some lovely words about me over the years I’ve been a Moodscope Member, but the evidence-based truth is that I’m not inclined to be kind. Kindness for me is more rational than emotional – literally ‘thoughtful’.  I don’t think I’m a sociopath, but I don’t ‘feel’ kindness. I do, however, like to experience a sparkle in my interaction with others. And thus, it has been good to discover my equivalent of Ted's ‘biscuits’.

Forgive me for being ungrateful, but this hot weather has been hellish for an obese person like me with heart problems. I’ve hated it. It has, however, made it easier to put myself in other people’s shoes. And thus, my ‘biscuits’ are ice creams! I’ve started taking ice creams to the pet shop that I love to visit but rarely spend money with. The ice-creams are a hit. So, the habit spread to where some of my stuff is to be stored - the Reception Team there – hit! I 'hit' the Camera Store the other day, too. Now I get a buzz out of doing it – and will continue to do so as long as it stays hot.

The idea today is to inspire you to do something similar because I’ve been delighted by how much joy a simple ice-cream can bring to a bakingly-hot retailer.  What will be your biscuits? These aren't random acts of kindness - they are intentional.

And lest you think well of me when you really shouldn’t, here’s one of my favourite songs: Ice Cream Man by Van Halen: https://youtu.be/sL9ZwmkooBA?si=rkEDtokVyoAlqqZl
