How to become psychologically resilient (2)

Another reminder that we don’t increase our resilience by feeling good but by getting better at feeling bad.

The idea is to try and change your negative feelings into more helpful ones. Resilience is the ability to create positive adaptations to negative events. It's the ability to take experiences like feeling anger or hurt and make them helpful and productive for you.

A second method to improve your resilience is to focus on what you control. Sadly we really can’t control hardly anything that goes on in the world around us. But we can control the one thing that makes the most difference to our lives - the way we think about what happens to us.

For example, when you feel you are being nagged to death by a well meaning friend, try turning that thought into “I feel grateful that they care so much about me as to come up with ideas to help”.

Can you think of examples you use to control your thoughts to feel better about something that could have got you into a downward negative spin? All ideas helpful.

Best
