Is something wonderful about to happen?

Do you believe something wonderful is about to happen or maybe  something awful will happen?

Recently someone gave me a little blank booklet with the title Always believe that something wonderful is about to happen. She wanted me to fill the little booklet with good things that will happen to me.

This person felt I was too negative as I said I worry something bad will happen and it sometimes does. I am realistic, not negative and was surprised someone who barely knew me could assume they understood me. I know this person meant well but it did make me slightly question my approach to life.

Rather than being negative it is a sense that something bad may happen, and it can affect one’s body and thinking. Often your brain is trying to protect you, even when there is no real threat.

What if you know someone who is extremely ill so it is a real chance a dear friend may die. Years ago, I was living in a severe bushfire area and yes there was a real chance my house and shop would be destroyed by fire. At the time I was in denial, feeling positive so I was shocked when it happened. If I had been more realistic, I may have been more prepared. So, thinking something good is about to happen was not helpful then.

If you always believe that something great is about to happen does that mean you are unrealistic and may not be able to cope with setbacks?

Do you feel that always believing something wonderful is about to happen has helped you in life? Why or Why not? Or do you think being aware of sad things that may happen is realistic? Why or why not? Or do you believe a bit of both?
