My first blog…

Currently I feel a lot better than this time last week. Thank goodness. I have found this past winter really hard: the cold and dark have been triggers for a prolonged episode of low mood.  But now, after talking to my GP and making a few changes, I feel as though I am emerging. However, my background concern is how to manage the next winter? Short of moving to a different climate, I still have some powerful options.

I have decided that instead of dreading winter, I will prepare for it.

Today I will buy some cheerful boxes specifically for winter equipment: under my bed I plan to store my wonderful electric blankets (one for the bed, one for the sofa), warm socks, warm thoughts and advice from my current self, and a catalogue for treatments from my local holistic therapist). I am applying the same principle of loving my future self that I have done before (pension, healthy habits, spiritual development...).

Last night I watched a short video about life in the coldest city on earth, Yakutia. Wow. I felt humbled and inspired by how Yakutians adapt to, and even use their living conditions. This has given me much food for thought.

If you were preparing your own 'box under the bed', what items would you add?
