I think we have all heard the quotation but maybe not the second and third line.
Neither a borrower nor a lender be;
For loan oft loses both itself and friend,
And borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry.
Even all those years ago, people knew about the hazards of being a lender or a borrower. I think we all know people who have been hurt lending something or borrowing something.
For the discussion today I am not talking about money as it’s a separate topic in itself.
Maybe you are fine borrowing or lending books or you have had an unpleasant experience that ended up with you losing a friend, or not speaking to a family member for a long time.
I have a friend who will never lend her books or borrow from others.
I am interested in your thoughts and experiences on lending and or borrowing.
I once lent a family member some arts books many years ago. After a few years I enquired about the books and was told that I had given them to them which I didn’t. I didn’t bring it up again but I was disappointed.
I have friend who only lends things they don’t mind not getting back.
Ok, now is the time to tell us about lending and borrowing that works, that did not work, and how lending can affect relationships.
What are your rules regarding lending and borrowing?
