Oh Blue Moon

To stand, toes curling in delight

On the dew jewelled grass under moonlight;

To ‘know’ thus the womb of earth

The very ground that gave us birth.

To lift hands high and spin slowly beneath the trees,

To feel the gentle spirit-wind breath whispering in leaves.

What message does it bring, to make my heart so sing?

To dance again, with childlike freedom, beneath the stars;

To hear the foxes bark, the owls hoot, the churring of the Nightjars.

To smell the sweet scent of fragrant Honeysuckle and Star Jasmine

Restoring memories of what was, and imaginations of what may have been,

And to know the truth – the revelation that comes to us all, of late or soon:

That you and your talents are move valuable, more rarer, more precious than this radiant Blue Moon.

Open Farm Sunday is this weekend, and if you can visit a working farm, it’s a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with where we get our food from. In the UK, you can find a participating farm near you here: https://farmsunday.org/visit-a-farm

I know several Moodscopers who have a powerful connection to farming. But what if you cannot go to a farm near you? What if leaving the house feels too heavy — perhaps the thought of people and bustle puts you off - then let my poem be your permission slip to a personalised exclusive experience of the great outdoors. One step onto dew‑jewelled grass. One breath of honeysuckle. One glance at the moon. You are more valuable than that radiant moon, and nature is waiting for you exactly where you are, and when you are ready. And we all know a little bit of Nature goes a long way towards boosting our wellbeing.
