Sayings and proverbs I heard growing up:
“If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.”
“If someone asked you to jump off a cliff, would you?”
“As long as you live under my roof, you’ll live by my rules.”
Empty vessels make the most noise.
A fool and his money are soon parted.
It is better to be a good sport than good at sport.
If you break your leg after I told you not to climb the tree don’t come running.
Many hands make light work.
Honesty is the best policy.
Don’t judge a book by its cover.
Better late than never.
Don’t bite the hand that feeds you.
I was looking at a book of modern proverbs but I didn’t know many. The ones I grew up with were different.
I was wondering if Moodscopers knew any on this list and what memories they bring back. Also I would like to hear any sayings you heard growing up and what they mean to you now.
Does anyone have a favourite proverb or saying that helps them? Is there any proverb or saying that does not make sense to you?
Not my favourite, but it makes me smile - Well behaved women rarely make history.
My dad said to me “I have taught you everything I know but you still know nothing.”
