A little tale of fun this week, to divert from any chat about my low mood, just this once. It seems I’ve entered into the land of fairytales.
We’ve always had many foxes in and around our garden. Mostly they’re no trouble, sometimes a little smelly trouble, and occasionally stealing important things big trouble! The ring leader of the moment must be being fed locally as he eyes up the kitchen door when it’s open, he’d like to approach to chat to me, and he’s very rotund. I like him but wild animals need to be wild so I don’t encourage him.
Newly arrived is a badger, maybe two. They sent me straight into Rupert stories but I’ve read they can be aggressive, strong and happy to climb so I’ll be keeping a low profile!
Two crows must be setting up a family in our front garden where there are high, soft, leafy bushes along our front path. It’s a great hidey hole but they’ve made it clear that they are in full territorial mood, and I’ve had to stick newspaper to a mirror out front as they attack their own reflections. They’ve now moved onto battering a window at the front door so I’ve made it as awkward as possible to reach and hope they keep safe. If the back window is open then they get as close as they can, and caw at me. I’m going to say that they’re requesting food but I think they just want me out of their way.
Lastly, a most cherished friend has made their presence known. I could not be happier. I’ve just spent £85 on a hand made feeding station to keep their food safe both from a nutrition point of view and to keep it free from things which can harm them. It has a short inner maze so other animals are put off from entering. Why? Two nights ago I discovered we have a hedgehog pal, when it triggered a front door camera late at night! Given how endangered they are I was honoured to have them feel safe here and amongst the rest of the visitors.
And I have felt a deep happy all week because of this little fella. I might put on a flowy frock and sing!

p.s. if you too have a hedgehog visiting then the website below is a rock solid source of information. It’s run by Pauly, an expert in hedgehogs and their rescue, and a former nurse. She puts to bed dangerous myths surrounding their health and care. https://hedgehogcabin.info/
