Turn and face the strange

Today’s score – 12%

Caroline reminded me that to do, and take note of, my scores would be a helpful thing right now.  I don’t know why I resist them. I always have and yet they are a vital part of recovery, packed full of insight and meaning.  Aside from sharing them with health professionals, to face the words and the meaning behind them helps us see precisely which things are stirring up discomfort. And it’s only by doing that that we can undo the knots.

So you’ll see that I’ve included my scores in each blog. My score will not tally in any way with anybody else’s given that our experiences and feelings are relative only to us (a sunny day in Scotland has many wearing shorts and dresses, where our tourists can be in padded coats). And if my scores go up or go down, day by day, it doesn’t mean it’s a lasting change, it is a snapshot after all. But watching their movement over time, and to pay attention to its connected annotation, is incredibly revealing. If we want to find a way out of a dark time, then facing the questions about what is keeping us stuck is key.

There is temptation to rush the cards and click the one you want to click, or choose the one you clicked yesterday, but there is something in the act of clicking which forces just a tiny pause, and it’s in there the truth can appear. Up or down, its only honesty that is going to help.
