Two blog posts in one

I have not done this for a while - giving you a choice of two topics to write about. You can choose one or both if you like or just read.

1 What happens next?

Have you ever had a day where you knew what you were doing but then in the morning something changed and the whole day was different? It can be something small or something important, but the day turns out different to what you expected.

Yesterday we woke to find the lights out and thought it was a blackout, but it was just the lights were out. We live in an old timber cottage so thought it may be the wiring. The electrician couldn’t give a time he was coming so I waited for a few hours. He confirmed it was the old wiring that would need to be replaced at some time. Obviously, it is expensive and tricky as it involves getting into the roof where the possums have been so who knows what he will find.

I know it sounds like a mundane thing, but the day turned out differently than I had planned. I wonder if your day, morning afternoon was all planned and then it changed. I suppose most people cope with change, but I find it a bit hard at times.

2 Can give yourself a second chance?

I have written about giving others a second chance, but I wonder why I find it hard to give myself a second chance. When I make a mistake or say the wrong thing I often get annoyed with myself and I feel embarrassed. Some say the first step in making the most of a second chance is to take responsibility for your past actions. Denying or making excuses for mistakes will not help. Instead, reflect on what went wrong, why it happened, and what you could have done differently.

I wonder if you find it hard to give yourself a second chance. Does it depend on what you did? Are some things easier to give a second chance to?
