The Governing body?
What’s it all about, Alfie?
Is it just for the moment in time?
What’s it all about?
Are we meant to take more than we give?
Or are we meant to be kind?
In this month’s French ‘Philosophie’ they ask ‘Are we becoming more intolerant? To noise, to gluten, to children, to immigrants? My tolerance is often low, and I boil over, which I immediately regret, but the damage is done.
Two or three years ago, here on Moodscope, possibly when my life was undergoing a major change, I looked at the current world (death of a son, birth of great-grandchildren affected me emotionally) and found it an alarming place. I voiced my fears, and a member, I think a scientist, analysed my fears, and said things are going to get better. Ignore Trump and Epstein, I am looking at the big issues, long term threats.
I am trying to get a book together on longevity. I have looked at my last eight decades from ‘outside the box’. For every major ‘pro’ there is a ‘con’. Old age IS a huge problem. Voluntary euthanasia is being discussed in many countries. Lex wrote on Monday ‘Live longer and better’ better being the key word. A lady here has just died. At 90 her life held few pleasures. When she died, late 90’s she could not see, hear, she hardly ate anything and was skeletal. Covid could have carried her off, but she would have been cocooned from infection. Doctors and scientists are proudly working to keep us living longer. Billions are spent on research on eradicating cancers. But no country I have studied so far has any viable system for coping with the people they save. Look up ‘Old Age’ in UK, there are ‘plans’, what help you should have, but there is neither money nor personnel to back it up.
Climate change control plans are nearly scuppered in those two years. The most powerful man in the world has said it is all rubbish, not going to back measures financially. Somebody told me there is hope for the Amazon rain forests, young people are eating less meat, therefore less pasture land wanted. But millions of Asians have discovered Macdonalds, so THEY are eating more meat. Emissions reduction by 2030? Not a hope. There is a huge demand for bigger cars (Macron is banning them from Paris). They may be electric or hybrids, but there are more of them.
My biggest fear is communication. This dinosaur listens to it all, made to feel a fool because I am missing out, On what? Democracy itself is at risk. Nobody believes any African election is honest, kill the opposition, rig the ballot. Cyber attacks are no longer science fiction. Another knowledgeable person says that every election is at risk of ‘interference’ by another country, or just from excessively rich people who control the media. Are others out there worried? Or accept what you cannot change, and live your life in the best way possible? Philosophy is not helping!
