The Three Graces is one of the most elegant sculptures. The version by Antonio Canova at the V&A is stunning. They represent three daughters of Zeus – each with the agency to give gifts to men and women. Euphrosyne gives mirth. Aglaia bestows elegance. Thalia the presents of youth and beauty (form an orderly queue).
I’ve been thinking about ‘three graces’ that I admire in others and aspire to in myself. I wonder what three graces you would choose to adorn your life with. Do tell!
I choose gratitude, graciousness, and generosity. They weave together so well, complimenting one another like the daughters of Zeus in the statues. And I’ve seen their opposites wound together too. I’ve met and have been an ungrateful person. I have lacked grace and noticed this in others too. And these two tend to work alongside being a bit of miser! In short, people who begrudge giving gratuities tend also to lack grace and find fault rather than causes for gratitude. I suppose Scrooge is a rather good example.
Thus, I have chosen to become progressively more grateful, more gracious, and more generous. Fascinatingly, those around me who don’t share these values give me grief for my generosity. I think that’s rich, don’t you?
Which three do you admire and aspire to develop? After all, we Moodscopers are all works of art in progress, aren’t we?
