Let’s do the thing

My son went to his friend’s funeral. Not the first time he’s had to see a friend onwards. This was a very sad accident from no fault of his own.

There is something scorching to the soul watching young people say goodbye to their friends. Particularly young men. Their invincibility cloaks lie in tatters at their feet, as their disbelief gives way to belief. They now carry a scar which will never, ever go away. Learning such harsh lessons young, these memories will be taken to their own graves.

There is no comfort but perhaps a ray of hope in the devastation which might strengthen them. The resolve of living that bit more true to self.

They will never know that I watched their faces, and their body language, as they left to attend (and I shed a tear), and I sent them beams of love from a distance. But maybe on some level somewhere in the future they will know.

Safe travels today. Let’s do the thing we don’t tend to do.
